Becoming a deacon is a three year process.   The most time consuming part is the education, so we urge you to view the Classes page and get your training going now!

Complete an application that includes a signature from the Pastor and Congregational representative to signify their recommendationApplications can be downloaded from the web at www.theossd.org on this link.

  • Admitted as a Candidate Deacon

  • Begin study with the next class offered

  • During the first year of study complete a psychological examination. During the second semester of the first year complete a review by their Pastor.

  • Upon completion of the first year of study interview with the Candidacy Committee which results in:

  • Designation as a Vicar Deacon

 During the final year of study:

  •  Complete the academic program

  • Receive a Letter of Call from the congregation or Agency

  • The Candidacy Committee will review all credentials and Letter of call

  • The Vicar Deacon will participate in a final interview with a member of the Candidacy Committee

 After final approval from the Candidacy Committee:

  •  Meet with the Setting Apart Coordinator to work out the details for the Setting Apart Service

  • Be Set Apart in Word and Service (Become a Deacon at this worship service)

  • Installation
